Some years ago, Creo Dynamics started the work to develop a new concept for side skirts on long haul truck trailers.
The idea was to utilize the aerodynamic concepts from Creo’s work in F1 Racing also for industrial applications (…we have over the years worked with F1 teams to improve their aerodynamic simulations).
The work resulted in a new, unique, patented concept for trailer side skirts with air curtains – enabling significantly increased aerodynamic efficiency compared to traditional side skirts. It’s today patented in the USA and EU.
Now it’s time to get this innovation to the market – Helping all Transporters to be even more fuel and environmentally efficient – Meeting the EPA and other Regional Environmental standards!
The new concept with airducts improves the side skirts’ aerodynamic performance with ca. 10-25%, especially in side-wind conditions.
The airducts in the side skirt generate airflows which create an air-curtain, closing the air-gap between the side skirt and the ground, thus reducing the drag. It also further reduces the aerodynamic wake behind the trailer by introducing a controlled airstream under the trailer into the wake (…and make it futile to slipstream behind this trailer).
The new side skirt concept is used within the EU research program AEROFLEX as an integral part of the Long Haul Truck of the Future.
