Master thesis: AI Agent for Active Noise Control in a Vehicle

Master thesis: AI Agent for Active Noise Control in a Vehicle

Overview
Faurecia Creo AB, a part of Faurecia – a global technology leader in the automotive industry – is offering a master thesis opportunity focused on developing an acoustic cavity simulator. This project will be conducted at the R&D Center in Linköping, Sweden.

Objective
The primary goal of this thesis is to explore and develop an AI-based methodology that enhances the performance and robustness of ANC systems in vehicles. The AI agent will support real-time interaction with the ANC system, enabling adaptive tuning and optimization based on dynamic acoustic environments

Background
The automotive industry is undergoing rapid transformation driven by digitalization and electrification. The emergence of the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) is reshaping how users experience noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). As traditional sources of noise change, the demand for intelligent ANC solutions is growing. This thesis aligns with Faurecia’s vision to integrate cutting-edge AI technologies into next-generation NVH systems.

Thesis Mission
The thesis will focus on designing and implementing an AI agent capable of:

  • Detecting changes in the in-cabin sound field in real time, using both acoustic signals and contextual reference data.
  • Interpreting signals from reference sensors such as vibration accelerometers, engine RPM, vehicle status, and road roughness to understand the driving environment and its impact on the sound field.
  • Interacting with the ANC system during the tuning process, providing adaptive feedback and guidance.
  • Continuously optimizing the ANC algorithm based on dynamic acoustic and contextual inputs to improve noise cancellation performance and robustness.

The agent should be able to learn from acoustic feedback and environmental changes, contributing to a smarter and more resilient ANC system.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for a motivated and innovative student with:

  • A strong background in signal processing.
  • Foundational knowledge of AI models and experience with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • A self-driven attitude and a passion for applying AI in real-world engineering challenges.
